Caption: This system of extracting fine-grained tin from streams on 'rag-frames' was once common, but no original examples survive. These reconstructions demonstrate the principle. The slurry was passed over the frame and the tin deposited. A water-controlled counterbalance tipped the frame to wash the deposited tin into a separate channel.
