Caption: Constructed between 1540-45, Pendennis sits at the Cornish end of a chain of defensive castles built by Henry VIII on the south coast. The castle's strategic position has proved its worth over time, with its defence and armaments continually adapted over a period of 400 years to provide defence from the French and Spanish in the 16th century to the Germans in World War II.
